Sugarequip is an international specialist in sugar equipment. We engineer and design in our South African office and have manufacturing capabilities locally and abroad to suit any budgetary requirements.
Dryers have been the staple of Sugarequip since its formation, but we also focus on entrainment arrestors and filtration equipment such as refinery filters, mud filters and press filters.
Sugar Dryers
Sugarequip has more than 50 dryers installed predominantly in the continent of Africa while new installations are being developed for the European market.
Two main dryers share the bulk of the installations, specifically Cascade Dryers and Louvre Dryers.
The Polybaffle (Entrainment Arrestor/ Entrainment Separator)
The Polybaffle Entrainment Arrestor is the most advanced system for the efficient and effective removal of entrained sugar from vapour leaving vacuum pans and evaporators. Where other systems suffer from inefficiencies at high vapour rates, high pressure drops and require constant maintenance to clean blockages, the Polybaffle excels.

Demister
A Demister comprises multiple layers of knitted wire mesh in a special arrangement, each layer being crimped and the crimps crossed on successive layers. This results in a high free volume and a large impingement target area of wire. The liquid droplets strike the wire surface, building up in size until they become large enough to fall down through the mesh under gravity. This impingement is facilitated by the inertia of the heavier particles.
Auto Filter
The Sugarequip Auto Filter is a type of Pressure Leaf Filter or Rotary Leaf Filter and has been specifically designed for refining operations where it can be used as a pre-filter before char or granular carbon, for filtering liquors that have been treated with powdered activated carbon, for carbonated liquors, sulphited liquors and as a polishing filter.
The vessel operates under pressure, where the leaves rotate fully submerged in the liquor being filtered. Due to the rotation, the cake that is formed is of uniform thickness. A uniform cake means a minimum amount of sweet water, resulting in lower sucrose losses and higher sugar recovery.
Similarly, Sugarequip provides support to service, refurbish and maintain the Smith Rotafilter – another type of rotary leaf filter that is no longer in production developed by Smith.
Inline Sight Glasses
Inline sight glasses have become a necessity for large pipework. Traditional pipe installations excluded sight glasses and recent manufacturing efficiencies have allowed us to create in line sight glasses arrangements for piping of up to 200 NB.
